Growth mindset is something we work on instilling in each child. It is important for them to know that they can fail at something and then come back and conquer it, that they are important and special to other people, and that they can and should try new things. We will work on a growth mindset phrase every week and have several mindset activities for them to do. This will include growth mindset board games, coloring sheets, activity sheets, projects, etc.
Math and Reading Support
Students will work on math and/or reading each day that is specifically related to their grade level. We have Mango Math, Box Car and One-Eyed Jack. Students will also have the opportunity to play board games, read books of their choice, and have staff read stories to them. After reading a story, students will work on lessons relating to the book. Every week, students will be given a packet of activities containing worksheets and self-paced activities that also relate to the lessons. They do these activities individually, in pairs, or in small groups.
Spelling- Word/Letter Work
Students work on grade level letter recognition or word work. Our goal is to support the students' success in their word/letter goals. We use different methods to build these skills. We also include a worksheet activity in their packet that pertains to the lesson plan they are working on in class.
Enrichment
Students are immersed in various opportunities that enhance their scope of learning. We use the Arts Attack Curriculum as well as various art techniques. IE: Canvas painting, drawing, color schemes, beadwork. We also provide many other art forms such as music, dance, holiday art, etc.
Community Connections
We strive to involve the community in various activities. We use community businesses to supply many supplies for us as well as have them provide opportunities for programming. Some specific connections are with Weston County Fair on entering projects, Cash Box Ceramics and Linda Cash with suppling ceramics as well as teaching the class, local school coaches to help with athletics, and so forth. We also want to work with the community in providing a Community Ag Fair this year.
Culinary Arts
Students are given the learning opportunity to learn cooking and baking skills as well as how to plan meals, figure out expenses, read recipes, use baking/cooking tools properly, etc.
Student Support Services
Students are given extra support they may need to become proficient at reading and/or math. This service is provided by school day Title1 teachers who are familiar with grade level benchmarks and methodologies. Grade level teachers refer students for this service, or it can be requested by a parent.
Physical Activity
Physical wellness and health is an essential component in a child’s life and our program strives to enhance that methodology. Students are given opportunities to participate in physical education opportunities throughout the year with greater skillset focus in the summer.
Cheerleading
Students in Pre-8th grade can participate in Little Dogie Cheerleading. These cheerleaders perform at various MS/HS sporting activities. ***Practices will be mandatory.***

Meet the Kindergarten-2nd Grade Adult Leader
Hi, my name is Monica Phillips. I am the adult mentor for K-2 Double Aces program, this will be my 2nd year. I enjoy working and being with your children. It makes my day and my heart happy when I get a hug, a Hi, or wave from them at the school or in public. I would like to share some of my personal facts with you.
I was born and raised in Newcastle, WY. I attended school here. I am married to Jim Phillips and we have been married for 40 years. We have 3 grown daughters, Amanda, Tasha, and Brandi and 5 grandchildren, Daymon, Savanah, Anabelle, Chance, and Cooper. Our daughter Amanda lives in Powell, WY. Tasha lives here in Newcastle and is the mother to Daymon, Savanah, and Anabelle. Brandi has recently moved back from Sheridan, WY is the mother to Chance and Cooper. I have 3 brothers and 1 sister, 2 of them live here in Newcastle, 1 in Upton, and 1 in Arizona. My several nieces and nephews are spread around Wyoming and Nebraska, but I enjoy seeing them when I am able to.
After graduation from high school, I moved to Cheyenne, WY for 4 years. While living there I worked for an accountant and for the State of Wyoming. I returned home and worked at Newcastle Vision Clinic. I was there for a total of 19 1/2 years. When I retired from there, I decided, that maybe, I wasn't ready to stay home after all. I went to work for Standard Labs at the coal mine. I was there for a total 12 years. I don't have any pets, but Brandi's dog, Rock is a big part of my life. She is an American bulldog, yellow in color, and just a loving, fun dog.
I enjoy being outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing, looking for rocks. I like to embroider, cook, and bake. Reading is probably my most favorite passion. I love to read about anything and usually have a book with me at all times. I enjoy most all types of music and love to dance. Spending time with my family is important and I try to see them everyday when possible .My favorite seasons are spring and fall. I like funny movies. Jim and I have motorcycles and we spend time taking trips on them. We have been to Colorado, Montana, South Dakota, California, Oregon, Idaho, and Wyoming on motorcycle trips.
