Growth MindsetGrowth mindset is something that is essential for each student to create in their brain pathways- being OK with things not going well the first time something is tried, or being willing to fail and learn from that failure, knowing that learning something new is not always easy, or being willing to try something new, etc. All these mindsets are learned!!! Knowing that nobody learned anything new from not trying is important for each student to recognize and create a “willingness pathway” to try something hard. Below is a list of growth mindset phrases that we will use throughout the year. We also use Big Life Journal curriculum to assist us in teaching students about having a growth mindset. We also have several growth mindset board games that students can work with.
Math and Reading SupportStudents will work on math and/or reading each day that is specifically related to their grade level objectives. We use Mango Math, Box Car and One-Eyed Jack, Math & Reading electronic games, board games, VersaTiles, various manipulatives, reading books, specific content work (punctuation, capitals, commas, subject-verb, pronouns, etc.) and so forth. Students choose which objective they would like to work on each day- these can be done alone, as partners, or small groups.
Spelling-Word/Letter WorkStudents will work on grade level letters recognition or word work. These are grade level specific. Our goal is to support the students’ success with their word/letter goals. We use various methods in which to build vocabulary and knowledge base.
